Silver Spring Stage is holding auditions for Macbeth. The production will be directed by Madeleine Smith.  Performances will be  October 23 – November 15, 2026

Auditions will be held at Silver Spring Stage (10145 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD) on:

• Sunday August 9 from 6:00 – 10:00 pm

• Monday August 10  from 6:00 – 10:00 pm 

Callbacks by invitation will be on Wednesday August 12 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm

To audition, sign up here for a five-minute slot. 

Please prepare one (1) classical monologue, approximately 1–2 minutes in length.Your audition piece must be a classical monologue, with Shakespeare strongly preferred. Previous experience performing Shakespeare is not required—we simply want to hear how you approach and work with classical language. Walk-ups are permitted, but we will accommodate them only as time allows. 

Callbacks will consist of sides from the script, which will be provided when callback invitations are announced.

Some Notes About Auditions & Schedules: 
Actors will need to fill out an audition form and submit a resume and headshot if available. Access the form here to print it out and complete it prior to your audition.

Actors must note their conflicts throughout the rehearsal process and run of the show, August 16 – November 15. 

Rehearsals will typically be held four times a week, on both weeknights and weekends, depending on cast availability.

Tech and dress rehearsals begin October 17, 2026.

Performances will run 4 weekends, October 23 – November 15.. Performances will be Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 PM, with Sunday matinees every weekend at 2:00 PM.

Brush-up rehearsals may be held Thursday evenings before Friday performances. 

Cast attendance is required at all rehearsals as called by the director and stage manager, unless a conflict has been previously indicated. Cast must be available for all tech and dress rehearsals, performances, and brush ups.

SHOW SYNOPSIS
Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a wicked tragedy that explores the corrosive nature of absolute power, the myopic drive for legacy, and the devastating consequences of unchecked ambition. Spurred on by prophecy and their own desires, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth seize the throne through violence, setting Scotland on a path of fear, bloodshed, and tyranny. As their rule unravels, the people of Scotland rise up to reclaim their country and cast down the tyrant who has stolen its future. This production will take place in medieval Scotland and draw on the universality of Shakespeare to draw allusions to the current political climate in America.

Casting Statement: All roles are open to actors of any gender identity. However, the gender of each character as written (or adapted for this production) is integral to this production and is not subject to alteration. Actors of all genders are encouraged to audition for any role, with casting based on the character’s established gender in the script.
