The deadline for Director Proposals for next season is a week from tomorrow; don’t miss your chance to see your vision come to life on stage!
See the Call for Director Proposals for the 2027-28 Season for complete information but here’s the gist:
- Complete this form: 2027-2028 Mainstage Director Questions
- Email to prc@ssstage.org the following items:
- A one-paragraph letter of introduction including the title of the play you would like to direct.
- A resume featuring your work as a theatrical director.
- Contact information (phone and email) for two (2) to three (3) references. Ideally, these should be people who have worked with you as a director and can speak to your collaboration style, theatrical skill sets, reliability, and insight.
- A copy of the script, preferably in pdf form.
We love proposals that feature larger casts and provide more opportunities for theater-makers to participate; encourage plays with strong name recognition (i.e., well-known titles and/or authors); and welcome shows that feature underrepresented views and allow for diversity in casting and behind-the-scenes participation.
We also love re-imagined versions of classics in the public domain (published before 1931). For ideas of plays in the public domain, see these lists from Backstage, Theatre Haus, and OnStage Blog. Note that newer adaptations of public domain works might not be in the public domain.
