Spring Stage receives 13 WATCH Nominations
Silver Spring Stage is very proud to receive 13 WATCH
Nominations for four of its productions in 2007. The Stage was honored
with three of the six best play nominations for Agnes of God, The Drawer
Boy and Never the Sinner.
The 8th Annual Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) will be
presented on March 2, 2008 at The Birchmere, Alexandria, VA. There were
a total of 109 productions (79 plays and 30 musicals) adjudicated from
29 community theatres. More information and a complete list of nominations

Silver Spring Stage has won five WATCH Awards previously
including two for outstanding play for Coyote on a Fence and
Bedroom Farce. |

Bus
Stop Recognized at 2007 Ruby Griffith Awards
At the Ruby Griffith Awards ceremony held on
Sunday, July 15th, Silver Spring Stage's production of Bus
Stop by William Inge, directed by Norman Seltzer, was
named the Second Runner-Up for Outstanding Achievement in a Play. This
is the fifth year in a row that the Stage has recognized as one of the
top community theatres in the area. The Ruby Griffith Awards are sponsored
by the British Players, associated with the British Embassy. more

Wins 2007 Maryland Community Theatre Festival
Silver Spring Stage's
production of Anton Chekhov's The Brute won two awards
at the 2007 Maryland Community Theatre Festival. Directed
by Ted Schneider, The Brute received awards for Best
Production and Excellence in Acting (Toni
Carmine as Mrs. Popov).
The Brute will be performed as
one of Maryland's entries in the 2007 ESTA Festival in Ephrata, Pennsylvania,
on the afternoon of April 14th. The Festival runs April 13-15. more

Silver
Spring Stage was accepted as one of the local theatres to participate
in the ground breaking theatrical project 365 DAYS/365 PLAYS
by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks. In November
2002, Parks wrote a play a day for the next 365 days. The world premiere
of this play cycle will be performed as a yearlong national festival simultaneously
in 14 major cities and communities around the country by over 600 theatres
in the largest theatre collaboration in U.S. History. Silver Spring Stage
will present its 7 plays the on December 15th and 16th at 8:00 pm. For

Coyote
on a Fence Wins 2006 Ruby Griffith Award
At the Ruby Griffith Awards ceremony held on
Sunday, July 9th, the award for Outstanding Achievement in a Play for
2005-2006 went to Silver Spring Stage's entry Coyote on
a Fence by Bruce Graham directed by Bridget Muehlberger.
This is the fourth year in a row that the Stage has recognized with
top honors. The Ruby Griffith Awards are sponsored by the British Players,
associated with the British Embassy. This award marks the tenth time
the Stage has received top honors over the past 35 years more

Perfectly
Good Airplanes Wins 2006 Maryland Community Theatre Festival.
Silver Spring Stage's production
of Steve LaRocque's Perfectly Good Airplanes won three awards
at the 2006 Maryland Community Theatre Festival. Directed
by Leta Hall, Perfectly Good Airplanes received awards for
Best Production, Excellence in Acting
(Ted Schneider) and the Cliff Smith Award for Excellence in Directing
to Leta Hall. Perfectly Good Airplanes was
performed as Maryland's entry in the 2006 ESTA Festival in Geneva, NY,
April 21-23.

Good Airplanes Wins at NVTA One-Act Festival
Silver Spring Stage's production
of Steve LaRocque's Perfectly Good Airplanes won two awards
at the 24th Annual NVTA One-Act Festival. Directed by Leta Hall, Perfectly
Good Airplanes was nominated for 5 awards; Best Actor,
Best Director, Best Original Script, Best Ensemble
Performance and Best Production of an Original Play. Awards
were presented to Ted Schneider for Best Actor
and to Steve LaRocque for Best Original Script.
Encore performances of this award winning production were presented
during our Annual One-Act Festival, August 19th through September 4th.
