The classic Shavian comedy will delight when a fussy English professor wagers that he can transform a guttersnipe Cockney flower girl into a lady of breeding, voice, and manners.
Casting:
Eliza Doolittle: Female - Age Range: 18-25 -- must be able to sustain a Cockney to proper British accent
Prof Higgins: Male - Age Range: 40-50 -- arrogant, sarcastic, pompous ? must be able to sustain a proper British accent
Col Pickering: Male - Age Range: 60+ -- Ex-military officer, kind gentleman, fatherly personality
Alfred Doolittle: Male - Age Range: 60-75 -- strong Cockney accent; affable father of Eliza who attempts to use his charm for an easy buck
Mrs Higgins: Female - Age Range: 60+ (depends on the age of person cast as Prof Higgins) -- Mother of Prof Higgins; she is an elegant, refined, sophisticated lady but with no snobbishness and/or affectations
Clara Eynsford Hill: Female - Age Range: 20+ -- sweet young thing, goes along with what ever is in fashion at the time.
Mrs Eynsford Hill: Female - Age Range 50+ -- very upper crust society lady, definitely a snob but is easily swayed but current fads
Freddy Eynsford Hill: Male - Age Range: 25-35 -- Son of Mrs Eynsford Hill, so also very upper crust, but falls madly in love with Eliza and her unaffected ways
Mrs Pearce: Female - Age Range: 50+ -- British accent, but can be regular British, Scottish, Welsh, Irish. Housekeeper to Prof Higgins -- strong enough to stand up to Higgins, but nurturing and very protective of Eliza
Supporting Cast: 2 men/2 women - any ages -- to play bystanders in Covent Garden in opening scene -- some lines -- one younger woman will be selected to play the parlor maid at Mrs Higgin's house
PLEASE NOTE: Traditional casting for a play set in London just before World War I -- British accents required (a dialect coach is being provided for the production). Cold Readings from the Script.
